Last summer we were fortunate to work with some wonderful couples at one of the most beautiful locations and one of our favourites – Silverholme Manor. On the banks of Lake Windermere, the views from the house and gardens are just spectacular. This makes it an absolutely perfect spot for a marquee with panoramic windows!

One of our couples last year were Kelly and Oliver, and they’ve kindly agreed to share a few details from their wedding day:

Introduce yourselves..

We met at Durham university over ten years and, despite currently living in London, we knew we wanted to get married in The Lakes. The Lakes is a special place to us; it’s where we spent the hot summers of lockdown, where we have spent the past New Years Eves, enjoying challenging walks, amazing food and open fires and it is also where, in 2023, we got engaged.

Had you always wanted a marquee for your wedding? What made you choose to hold your wedding in a marquee at Silverholme?

Silverholme was everything we dreamt it would be and so much more. The thing we loved the most about Silverholme was the view and, thankfully, we were able to get married on the lawn overlooking Lake Windermere. Having a sailcloth marquee overlooking that same spot for our reception was a dream come true.

What made you choose the sailcloth from Shades?

Choosing Shades was easy and stress free. We knew about their reputation and working with them was a breeze. Any worries we had were instantly squashed by the friendly staff. From choosing the size of marquee, organising the tables and even suspending our home made floral hoop, no question went unanswered. Their years of experience meant that whatever we asked of Shades, they’d either already done or knew exactly how to sort it. The level of personalisation available in the sailcloth meant that we had total creative control of the space and our vision came to life beautifully.

Did you find planning and coordinating the venue and suppliers easy to do?

Despite having no wedding planner, coordinating our caterers, florist and Silverholme site crew alongside the marquee was seamless. Everyone was experienced, relaxed, kind and hilarious!

The day ran seamlessly due to the amazing work put in from all of our suppliers. They were able to do this because the marquee was up and ready to use in no time.

We were so lucky that the marquee wasn’t collected until the end of our stay (the Tuesday) which meant we were able to get the most out of the space. Especially the day after the wedding when we had a BBQ and the lakes weather was out in full force!

What advice would you give to anyone else planning a marquee wedding?

To anyone planning a marquee wedding, trust your suppliers! They’ve seen and done it all before and you are really in capable hands. Don’t be afraid to get stuck in and really make the space your own, safe in the knowledge that experienced, helping hands are never far away.
